When I was a kid, I dreamed about having my own shop space.
Fifteen years later, that dream has evolved into something more: a 2,800 sq ft luxury office inside one of the storage condos we build.
We just wrapped the buildout, and today I'm giving you a full behind-the-scenes tour of our new HQ—designed by my wife, built by my construction team, and packed with the same grit, vision, and practicality we bring to every project at MAK Capital.
This isn’t just a workspace. It’s a brand billboard. A podcast studio. A design lab. And yes—a place to decompress with an impromptu game of pickleball.
Tour MAK’s New Office HQ inside a Storage Unit
Check out our full behind-the-scenes tour of MAK’s new headquarters in North Dakota on YouTube.
We started with a blank storage shell—the same luxury condos we develop for investors—and turned it into a fully functional, beautifully designed HQ.
My wife led the interior design, and we kept it lean by reusing materials from other projects: black vertical shiplap, acoustic Trex-style paneling, and concrete floors sealed raw (not polished).
This office seats our team of five, includes a full kitchen with waterfall-edge counters, and has a media studio upstairs. The black walls and ceilings were risky at first, but they ended up giving the space a modern, bold vibe that feels right at home.
The Details That Make It Work
Didn’t want to pay $15K for a designer desk. So we built one.
The concrete slab top weighs 600 lbs and took serious effort to install upstairs, but now it’s a centerpiece that doubles as a story.
Other features:
Custom-built cabinetry with light modern tones
Heated and bent LVP steps to match cabinetry
Pendant lighting, sound panels, and steel railings for industrial polish
We even built a swag station stocked with MAK hats and gear for podcast guests—and a full recording studio upstairs with moody lighting, soundproofing, and everything we need to shoot a webinar or hop on Zoom.
The Pickleball Court
I always dreamed of owning shop space. Somewhere to mess around, create, and host my team. That dream eventually turned into a private indoor pickleball court. We host quarterly company updates there, investor events, and off-the-cuff matches when we need to decompress.
This is where our team culture we be built, where teams reset between sprints, and where clients and partners get a taste of how we think differently.
Everything in this office was built with the same mindset I bring to real estate:
Solve problems with what you’ve got
Invest in pieces that tell your story
Make your work environment reflect your future
I don’t build this way to show off. I build this way because this is the life I want to live.
And now, every time I walk into this space—from my concrete desk to the pickleball court out back—I’m reminded: the dream is real. And it’s built.
